Good afternoon.
NJAW’s qualified contractor, CDM Smith, will be starting in Scotch Plains on Wednesday, May 21st. Door to door inventory assessments and scheduled inspections of water service line materials in Scotch Plains will be ongoing and is expected to continue for the next few weeks.
All inspectors will wear co-branded (NJAW and CDM Smith), high visibility logo vests (see attached) and will have NJAW issued ID badges. Inspectors will introduce themselves and the program and will then ask to enter the customer home to inspect the water service where it enters into the home (typically in a basement or crawl space). The inspector will take exterior photos of the house and house number and interior photographs of the service material and record the pipe material identified. Inspections generally take 15-minutes or less. At no time will residents be asked for money. Any customer that prefers not to have an internal inspection completed will be provided with information on how to self-report their service material.
We anticipate the canvass effort will take 10 to 12 weeks depending on weather and scheduled inspections to complete 2 full rounds of canvassing
